Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital (KMCH) commenced its operations following the integration of the Medical College with Rupnath Brahma Government Civil Hospital on 20th January 2023. The National Medical Commission (NMC) conducted a physical inspection of the college on 31st January 2023 and subsequently granted the Letter of Permission (LOP) on 22nd February 2023.
According to the circular from the Academic Cell of NMC (D11011/377/2023/Academic Cell) dated 6th April 2024, Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital has been assigned to the Regional Centre, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong. This Regional Centre, in turn, falls under the Nodal Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Sawangi, Wardha.
In compliance with the NMC guidelines, the Medical Education Unit (MEU) of KMCH was established with a total of ten members. Additionally, a Curriculum Committee comprising eight members was also constituted to oversee and implement academic programs in accordance with regulatory requirements.

An inspection of the Medical Education Unit (MEU), Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital (KMCH) was conducted by the Regional Centre (RC) NEIGRIHMS, Shillong on 6th June 2023. Documents related to the establishment of the MEU, including a copy of the skill laboratory, list of journals, and list of faculty and staff employed at KMCH, were submitted to RC NEIGRIHMS, Shillong. All MEU members have undergone training in BCME and CISP III workshops at the Regional Centre in a phased manner.
The Medical Education Unit took the initiative to organize its first workshop, a one-day sensitization workshop on University Examination & Evaluation, on 19th July 2023. The 1st MBBS batch of 2023-24 commenced their classes on 1st September 2023. The Curriculum Committee (CC) members and MEU members arranged the foundation course classes. Similarly, for the 2nd batch of KMCH, the CC members and MEU members guided the foundation course.
The MEU, KMCH launched the Mentor-Mentee program on 2nd April 2024, with each mentor assigned five mentees from the MBBS batch of 2023-24. The Mentor-Mentee program was continued for the MBBS batch of 2024-25, with three mentees per mentor. Student feedback regarding the CBME Course was collected from both batches during the initial three months of the course. Quarterly Curriculum Committee meetings are conducted, and reports are sent to the Regional Centre for the National Medical Commission (NMC).
In September 2024, on the 25th, 26th, and 27th, eleven faculty members from Kokrajhar Medical College were sent to Dhubri Medical College & Hospital to participate in the BCME Workshop. Subsequently, as per Letter No. D-11011/550/2024-AC from the Academic Cell, National Medical Commission, dated 24th September 2024, Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital has been relocated to the Regional Centre at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, Assam.
